The beauty of Rajasthan - part 2

13 June 2019

After an intense adventure to discover Jaipur, the following day we set off for Pushkar. We arrived in this beautiful village that surrounds the sacred waters of a lake after a three hours drive

Pushkar's lake by night

Two things about Pushkar are unmissable: its narrow streets full of shops and the Savitri temple, perched on the summit of the mountain dominating the city. The view up there is breathtaking, surrounded by countless monkeys. Just be careful not to bring food, they will snatch it from your hands!

Our journey continues, and the next stop is Mandawa, a 5-hour drive on the way back to Delhi.

Mandawa is a village built on the ancient Silk Road, an aspect that allowed its inhabitants to get rich with the duties applied to the caravans that passed through it. Today as witness, only the ancient palaces (Haveli) remain, still showing timidly their paintings and ornaments of the past.

Once explored these pearls of Rajasthan, we just have to make a brief stop in Jhunjhunu to admire the beauty of the Rani Sati Temple, a Hindu temple dedicated to women. Inside the access is allowed only barefoot and you cannot take pictures. No problem, we can still admire the exterior facade with a truly original color.

The eighth and last day of our journey we are back to New Delhi.

The city is very chaotic and is tough dealing with the heat, although it is dry. A must see is the Qutb Minar, the highest minaret in the world (73m), the India Gate, in the the triumphal arch’s style and Chandni Chowk, the beating heart of Ancient Delhi.

Chandni Chowk is a busy shopping area. Here you can find everything: from spices to dried fruit, to silver jewelry and brightly colored saris. In the narrow side streets there are shops selling sweets, essential oils and stationery.

In short: yet another journey that has left us with a special baggage made of colors, scents, looks and new cultures.
