BACK TO THE K2 WITH MIKE HORN

12 July 2019

The K2 has a special place in our heart.

It was around six o’clock pm of the 31st of July 1954 when Achille Compagnoni and Lino Lacedelli, equipped with Dolomite boots made the first step onto the summit of K2, the second highest mountain in the world (8,611m). It was probably one of the last acts of heroic mountaineering, according to Reinhold Messner, yet one of the most controversial one. Since 1954, only about 300 people have reached K2's summit. Experts say that, while K2 is lower than Everest, it is steeper and more dangerous, with more intense weather. That's why is known also as the "Savage Mountain".

Since years and years, reaching the summit of this mighty peak has been the hobbyhorse of the extreme explorer Mike Horn.

Globally acknowledged as one of the world’s greatest modern day adventurer, Mike owes its fame for his unparalleled solo journeys around the world, such as his solo circumnavigation of the Arctic Circle in 2004 or his one-year, 6-month solo journey around the equator without any motorised transport.

Departed from K2 base camp on 24th June, Mike and Fred are expected to make a summit attempt in mid-July, after a proper acclimatization period of 44 days to adapt their bodies to the high altitude.
