Namibia: where ocean and desert meet

10 June 2020

It is almost dusk, the warm sun of western Namibia, which in these days has illuminated and warmed up the days, is setting behind the high desert dunes, mirroring majestically of a dull orange in the murky waters of the Okavango, which given the arid climate in these areas, it is more reminiscent of a stream than a river.

An incredible country, that we’re going to leave tomorrow, but which in these days has made us live unforgettable experiences, filling our hearts with new emotions. The stunning beauty of uncontaminated nature, which animates and colors the landscape in an interplay between plateaus and deserts, and then suddenly met the Atlantic Ocean. The smile of Himba women and children, an ancient nomadic tribe from the Kunene region, capable of keeping their traditions intact and face life as if it were a big party.

A paradise’s corner that we tried to discover by going out hiking several times (although the high temperatures) whenever it was possible. From the exploration of the Brandberg mountain area, famous for the archaeological findings of over 2000 years ago, to the ocean breeze of the Skeleton Coast and the thousands of seals that inhabit it.

In the meantime, the sun has left room for the night and the myriads of stars that illuminate the desert. I just have to take my jeep and get back on my way.
