Spring time on the Salten Plateau, the awakening of nature
This is that time of year when cyclical changes and natural transformations occur.
The desire to explore certainly doesn’t go into hibernation in winter, but it’s as if, at some point during the year, that desire is triggered by a special signal, diverting the course and perspective of our thoughts. A vision, a rocky landscape, the natural environment, the outdoor temperature and the smell of change in the air. An atmosphere, the glimmering light of the Dolomites that reaches the town, in the heart of the Adige valley. Those are signals that unconsciously trigger something inside of us, an idea, a renewed desire.
And so, our ascent begins, right from the Adige valley and the Bolzano basin, towards the Sarntal Alps, only to find ourselves catapulted into the woods. The woods welcome us in the morning with a cold wintry breeze. We take shelter from that breeze wrapped up in our Dolomite Pelmo 2.5L waterproof jackets, an essential item of clothing to carry in your backpack all year round, that is light and weather resistant.
We are on the Salten Plateau, in Alto Adige, at an altitude of approximately 1,400 metres. The plateau gradually comes into focus, enabling us to anticipate and get a forestate of the reason for coming here. The larch wood accompanies us with its silence, leading us on an easy but constant climb. As we gradually leave the trees behind, the Brenta Dolomites come into view on the south-west side, while the Ötztal Alps above Merano accompany us in the foreground.
The green expanse of the plateau opens up on to the mountainscape of the Sciliar, Latemar and Catinaccio Dolomites, and beyond, all the way up to the Sella, Sassolungo, Pale di San Martino and Odle mountain peaks. A rendezvous that no one should be deprived of and that will never cease to amaze us.
The Dolomite Crodarossa Tech Gore-Tex women’s shoes and the Croda Nera men’s shoes accompany us on our spring outing. Their mesh uppers embrace the feet and provide a feeling of extreme lightness and comfort, while also guaranteeing the stability and support of sturdy boots.
Meanwhile, the cold morning breeze gradually yields to increasingly warmer, summery air as the day goes by. The sun shines on the plateau, with a few dark clouds looming over us. Their grey and black nuances evoke and bring back memories of a summer storm. And so, the unpredictability of a season where transformation is part of the awakening process of nature, forms the backdrop of a day that’s constantly changing.
